Lithic Analysis

MAI provides a detailed understanding of prehistoric stone tool technology through identification of flaked stone technological organization and reduction strategies, lithic raw material composition and sourcing studies, use-wear, refitting, and experimental flintworking. MAI's Lithics Laboratory collaborates with Mercyhurst's Geology Department in the characterization of lithic raw material, both macroscopically and in petrographic thin section.
