Forensic Recovery Van

The Applied Forensic Sciences Department has its own 15 passenger 2007 Chevrolet Express van used to transport faculty, students and equipment out to outdoor crime scene recoveries, to and from the Hirtzel Lab in North East, to the annual Coroner’s Courses, and to professional meetings in other cities. The Mercyhurst Forensic Scene Recovery Team has been called to sites over a diverse geographic range, including West Virginia, western New York, Ohio and the four corners of Pennsylvania. The van is equipped with its own external power source for charging equipment while on the road, and can carry 11 students and faculty when fully loaded with equipment.

Although outdoor recoveries are its primary use, the van is often available for transportation to the annual meetings of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and American Association of Physical Anthropology when they are within reasonable driving distances. Trips to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Meadowcroft Rock Shelter, and to other museums in Pennsylvania and Ohio have also utilized the forensic recovery van.
