Archaeological Artifact Processing Laboratory
The Archaeological Processing Laboratory, or the Processing Lab, is where everything begins once our field work is completed. Through this lab, all material recovered from our excavations, as well as material contracted to us for analysis, initially pass for cleaning, cataloguing, labeling, and preliminary analysis. Under the guidance of MAI research staff, student work study employees and graduate students receive their initial indoctrination into the intricate world of archaeological laboratory work. This lab is currently processing material from dozens of sites around the United States.
